Right now there just isnt a compelling reason to upgrade unless you're the kind of guy who needs to run every game at 144+ FPS and are willing to burn money for marginal upgrades, or the kind of guy who wants "the best" for the sake of having "the best." Maybe 20-30% at most, maybe more in a few isolated situations, but normally the difference will be like 10%.Įventually you will want more cores, but im guessing by the time you need more cores for gaming that you'll be able to get 9900k performance for far less. This should give you a decent performance boost with gaming and everyday tasks without the need of "throw away" money on the i9!ħ700k is still in the sweet spot for cores/threads and you won't get that big of a performance boost. I would recommend instead of buying the i9, get a decent CPU cooler, maybe an AIO, oc the sh*t out of the 7700k, and get some 3000 or 3200 ram to upgrade from the 2400 (make sure to get a kit with 2 sticks so you have dual-channel! So if you wanna check that you dont run into a bottleneck (which most likely you wont) - check if your GPU usage is around 98-99% which means everything is working as intended. Keep in mind since you are playing at 1440p - that a higher resolutions means your GPU gets more used than your CPU. So unless you are a big baller in terms of money, you should not waste the money on the new CPU. BUT in real world gaming performance, you might gain maybe 5~10fps if any at all. Yes of course the 9900k is faster and new architecture and all the good stuff. The main factor is that you say you only do gaming - which means you dont need to upgrade. So, what do you think? Stock 7700k and DDR4 2400 Ram to OC 9900k and 3200+ RAM? Would that make a big difference in gaming or is it a waste of money? I can't say for sure if that's because they really need that much power or they're just poorly optimized. And it sounds like there are several AAA games that just came out that would be the same way.
